Backpacking Matilijah Falls

April 4th, 2017

Just came back from an amazing hike in Ojai, Ca to Mailija Falls. It was my first time out there and I’m glad to discover such a beautiful place! My friends and I had fun introducing some first timers into backpacking. Not many chances to do photography on this trip, but here a couple photos of the adventure.

We camped out the night before the hike. Our taste buds were honored with gourmet camping food by Chef Shaun.

Our bag line.

A lot of animals surprised us in the beginning of the hike. We saw some peacocks as well as this donkey. He is sneaky. At one point I turned around and it’s face was inches away from mine.

Many creek crossings on this trip. So glad I brought water shoes. It was refreshing walking in the water.

Here’s my bro experiencing his first backpacking trip.

Nothing beats a cold refreshing drink from the creek.

I could sit here all day.

Coming upon the falls.

The double-decker, also known as West Falls.

Can’t get over these tall vertical rock formations!

Matilijah Falls!!!

Found this picturesque falls above Matilija Falls.

Only one that woke up 4am to see the Milky Way. Kind of hard to see when you have a really dim headlamp. I was too scared to venture far on my own and had a hard time finding good compositions. Nevertheless, it was amazing being able to see the Milky Way in the sky again!

Cheiryl apparently found a way to bake a cake in the outdoors.

Here it is!

Surprise Tara and Xander! Happy Birthday!

Astrophotography

One of my favorite things to photograph is the night sky. Astrophotography for me is amazing because it reveals the beauty that is always there above us, but most of us never see. Today one of my shots of the Milky Way got featured by Milky Way Chasers. It’s an incredible account featuring some of the best photos and stories of capturing the Milky Way. They actually just celebrated their year anniversary as well reaching 200k followers. Incredibly thankful for them supporting photographers like me. Here’s hoping to more adventures as Milky Way season 2017 begins.
